Plant-based proteins are more than just a trend. The rising demand for these types of products is a reflection, among other things, of an increasingly health-conscious consumer.

While soy may be the king of plant-based proteins, it certainly isn’t the only option in the market. Here are a few popular soy alternatives:

Pea Protein
Pea protein supplies adequate amounts of 8 of the 9 essential amino acids that a healthy body requires. Like other proteins, it is also very effective for helping you feel satiated, thus helping to curb cravings. Pea protein is easily digested and has a lower allergy risk than common protein sources, such as soy and dairy

Quinoa Protein
Quinoa has a higher protein content than other grains such as corn or barley. Is a highly nutritious and richer in protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals than other grains. Plus, it’s gluten-free!

Organic Flax Seed
Traditionally used to relieve abdominal discomfort, flax seed has hidden superpowers: it’s high in alpha linolenic acids (one of the heart-friendly omega 3 fatty acids) and rich in protein, fiber and minerals like phosphorus, which works with calcium to build bone strength.

These plant proteins do not contain dairy or lactose, making them a viable option for people with some of the most common allergies.

Personalised Nutrition – How Many Grams Of Protein Per Shake And Meal? https://www.herbalvitality.com/protein/personalised-nutrition-how-many-grams-protein-shake-meal https://www.herbalvitality.com/protein/personalised-nutrition-how-many-grams-protein-shake-meal#respond Thu, 30 Jan 2020 01:34:48 +0000 https://www.herbalvitality.com/?p=731

Why Protein?

An essential component of every cell in the body, protein is a macronutrient made of 22 ‘building blocks’ called amino acids. Proteins have different functions in the body including contributing to growth in muscle mass and the maintenance of muscle and normal bones. Without enough protein, it can be difficult to sustain a balanced diet and reach your goals. Aim to consume up to 30% of your daily calories from protein.

So What Should I Eat

A combination of vegetable and animal protein sources each day. Soy is one of the best vegetable sources as it is a ‘complete’ protein that provides all the essential amino acids. As other vegetable protein sources like nuts, seeds and lentils are not ‘complete proteins’, try to combine them to provide a better proportion of amino acids. For animal protein, high quality sources include fish, poultry, eggs and low-fat dairy products, which provide the additional benefits of Iron, Zinc and B vitamins.

Personalised Nutrition

Provided by Your Herbalife Wellness Coach. Calorie and protein intake are linked to your height/weight, sex and activity level. This includes how many grans of protein per shake and each meal.. Contact us for details.

A perfectly balanced blend of pea, quinoa and flaxseed, this shake delivers a 100% complete protein, that is also high in fibre and low in sugar.

WHY TRI BLEND SELECT?

Many products on the market are are not complete sources of protein, which means they do not contain full spectrum of amino acids making them ineffective in supporting lean muscle mass, satiety or immune system support. Tri-blend Select contains a unique combination of pea, quinoa and flax seed as part of a premium protein blend that provides all the essential amino acids found in a complete protein.

Plant-based protein foods are considered to be a healthier source of protein when compared to animal-derived protein foods, due to the reduced content of saturated fat.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Tri Blend Select is a high protein and low in sugar with ingredients sourced naturally and are plant-based. We searched the planet to source the best possible grade of every single ingredient in Tri Blend Select, like Quinoa from Colombia and Flax Seed from Canada.

Tri Blend Shake – Organic, Natural Ingredients

From the dense jungles of Colombia to the Canadian prairie, the Tri Blend Select story is woven together by the people, the places and the philosophy that make it so unique. We scoured the planet to source the best possible grade of every single ingredient:

Pea – Pea protein is easily digested and has a lower allergy risk than common protein sources, such as soy and dairy. Peas have been cultivated in France for thousands of years, which is why we source our peas there. Centuries-long pea production experience coupled with that famous French gastronomic air mean that our naturally-sourced French peas are simply fantastique.

Flax seed -Traditionally used to relieve abdominal discomfort, flax seed has hidden superpowers: it’s high in alpha linolenic acids (one of the heart-friendly omega 3 fatty acids) and rich in protein, fiber and minerals like phosphorus, which works with calcium to build bone strength. When cultivated in a northern climate, the alpha linolenic fatty acid content and iodine value of the flax seed is turbo-charged, which is why we source our brown organic flax seeds from Canada.

Quinoa – Is a highly nutritious and richer in protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals than other grains. Plus, it’s gluten-free! We work with family farms in Colombia, who have been growing this nutritious plant for generations. Their commitment results in what we consider to be one of the Highest-quality quinoa in the world.

These three are the main proteins that make up Tri Blend Select, but the mix also includes high-quality, locally sourced ingredients such as coconut blossom nectar, chicory root inulin, rice protein powder, oat, acerola cherry, and stevia.

COCONUT BLOSSOM NECTAR

Coconut sugar is made from the juice of the flowers of the sub-tropical coconut palm. Flowers juice is collected, heated on wood fire and what is left is aromatic caramel-like substance. Our source of coconut blossom nectar in Tri Blend Select comes all the way from an organic farm in Indonesia where farmers still use the traditional methods without the need to add anything artificial.

CHICORY ROOT: INULIN

The compound from chicory root, inulin, is added to many common foods because it can boost its texture, giving some sweetness and providing extra fibre. Inulin also reduces LDL “bad” cholesterol. Inulin in Tri Blend Select comes from chicory root farms in Belgium and Netherlands, selected for the consistently high quality produce.

RICE

Rice was first domesticated in China and incredible thing about it is that rice protein powder contains over 80% protein that is rich in two amino acids: cysteine and methionine. Rice protein, together with quinoa, flax and pea protein in the right ratios make Tri Blend Select a source of complete, nutritious, vegan source of protein, which is the key for our lean muscle mass, immunity and satiety.

Our rice comes from south-eastern China where high temperatures and plentiful of rainfall create perfect environment for growth of the highest quality rice in the world.

OAT

Oat contains a fiesta of nutritional compounds, including soluble fibre beta-glucans, which have been shown to reduce blood cholesterol and glucose absorption. Our oats come across Europe from pioneering oat farmers and are superior in quality, nutritional value, freshness and flavour.

ACEROLA CHERRY

Acerola cherries are packed with nutrition, containing 37 times more vitamin C than the equivalent amount of oranges. They are naturally low in calories, rich in iron and antioxidant properties. Our Acerola cherries come from the lush orchards of north-eastern Brazil where they are organically farmed and carefully harvested by hand. Its farmers have created a naturally balanced ecosystem that brings the highest fruit yields whilst respecting the local area.

STEVIA

The stevia plant is native to South America where it was first consumed over 200 years ago when the indigenous people used the plant leaves to sweeten their beverages or chew them as a sweet treat. The naturally present sweetening components of stevia are 200-300 times sweeter than sugar and do not contain any calories. It also has low Glyceamic Index. This makes it a perfect choice for Tri Star Blend. Our Stevia comes from trusted farmers across Asia where it has been grown for centuries.

Proteins are fundamental structural and functional elements within every cell in the body and they’re involved in a wide range a metabolic interactions. All cells and tissues contain protein and it’s a key nutrient in our diet and it provides amino acids which are building blocks that we can’t make ourselves, so they’re needed for growth development and repair the body. The body however does not store protein and it can’t be produced internally so it’s important that we consume protein every day. Proteins are an important building block for bones, muscles, skin, hair and nails.  Protein is the second most abundant compound in the body after water.

Why Plant Protein?

Some protein sources do contain a higher amount of calories than others; it’s worth knowing which ones to choose. Protein that comes from animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs provide all eight essential amino acids that the body needs, but they come with a higher-calorie, fat and cholesterol count than other sources. Eating these food-groups in moderation is great, but there is also the option of plant based protein to choose from that are just as beneficial.

Plant proteins are:

1. Low in saturated fat – High levels of saturated fat in the blood raise cholesterol and contribute to clogged arteries.

2. Alkaline-forming. – Feeding the body with acidic animal proteins strip the bones of minerals as the body finds internal sources to maintain an alkaline ph. The typical North American and European diet is acid-forming (meat, bread etc…) which is not helpful in maintain your body’s naturally alkaline pH.

3. Easy to digest – Plant-based foods are easy for your body to digest. They contain fibre, which is crucial to proper digestion. Less time spent on digestion means more energy to use throughout your day.

Herbalife Protein drink mix( PDM) is a tasty way to help you increase your intake of plant protein. It can be used in two ways either as a high protein snack drink or add it to your favourite Formula 1 shake to give you a nice thick rich and creamy shake. Mixes with water, saving a trip to the shops for milk! PDM or lentils for breakfast?!

Think Plant Protein in April! Look at ways of incorporating plant protein into your diet…This month give Quina a try also ” Spicy Tomato and Lentil Soup”,  and add some spinach or seeds to your shake.

 Why Plant Protein?

1. Low in saturated fat
2. Alkaline-forming.
3. Easy to digest.

How?

Herbalife shakes for breakfast and lunch are a very tasty way to increase your intake of plant protein. Also snacks such as Herbalife protein bars, soy beans and soup.

Guidelines

What about your main meal, here are some options:

Guidelines: 1/2 vegetable or salad, 1/4 protien and 1/4 carbs

1. Quinoa 5.5g protein per half cup
While it tastes like a grain, quinoa is actually a seed. It’s a high protein alternative to rice or pasta, served alone or over vegetables and greens. This gluten-free alternative to couscous or bulgur is a complete plant-based protein. Quinoa only takes 15 to 20 minutes to prepare and actually freezes very well. Serve it hot or cold as a base for a stir-fry or salad or as a hot side to a meal.

2. Lentils: 9 g Protein per half cup
Delicious, nutritious and super easy to prepare. Red, green and yellow lentils are all excellent sources of protein, fibre and iron. Depending on how you choose to flavour them, they can transport your taste buds around the globe to the Middle East, India or the Mediterranean. See Tomato and Lentil, spiced soup recipe.

3. Beans – All beans are high in protein, soybeans contain the largest amounts of protein with 14g protein per half cup. Other beans (Black, Kidney, Mung, Pinto) 7-8 g per half cup. Use in in chili and soups, on salads or over rice with vegetables

4. Nuts – roasted soy beans, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts offer high amounts of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals and are easy to incorporate into a snack or meal. Toss them chopped or whole into your favourite salad.

5. Hemp seeds – 16g Protein / 3 Tbsp
Though tiny, hemp seeds are a source of complete protein, containing all 10 essential amino acids. With a creamy, nutty taste, these seeds are also high in plant-based omega-3 fatty acids. Add hemp seeds to salads, vegetables, rice and smoothies.
